2017 Sir Walter Miler In Review

On Friday, the fourth ever Sir Walter Miler was held on the track at Meredith College adjacent to NC State. Each year, the event continues to grows and draw a sizable crowd, this year was no different–but they did add people running in blue jeans.

The SWM was founded by Sandy Roberts in 2014. He started it as a small race at Cardinal Gibbons, but after gaining support and a large following from the track and field community, Sandy and fellow runner Pat Price have nurtured the SWM into one of Raleigh’s best athletic events.

As mentioned, this year’s event featured a variety of races, including a denim mile, where the competitors had to run a 4 laps in blue jeans…..yikes. This was followed by a 4×400 relay put on by local running clubs, and then was rounded out with the men’s and women’s elite races with the professional runners.

With the SWM becoming a marquee running event in North Carolina, it’s no surprise Sportschannel8 was on the scene. Here are some of our highlights……
