While Mitch Trubisky was being announced as the ACC Offensive Back of the Week, UNC coach Larry Fedora was simultaneously naming Marquise Williams the starter at quarterback moving through this week’s preparations. The announcement certainly changes the tone of the Tar Heels football program moving forward.
“Marquise Williams is our starter,” Coach Fedora said. “There’s no quarterback controversy.”
At his weekly press conference, Fedora was quick to praise Trubisky, saying “[w]e started being more efficient offensively, opened things up.” Meanwhile, on Williams, Fedora stated, “there were some things that were done in the game that [Marquise] wasn’t coached to do.” Even so, the reins were snatched from Trubisky and handed to Williams.
It remains to be seen if Trubisky will earn his coach’s trust back and see snaps in the future. Refusing to play a strong contributor in key games is not something Fedora does often. More on this situation as it develops.
