From the North Cack Stacks: Best of NC Sports Media August 9-16

Articles

Another week in the books, check out what I found this past week….

  • – I really loved this piece from the guys at Section 328 that captures what could have been if the Hurricanes had signed Sergei Fedorov in 1998 with a conversation between Peter Karmanos and Jim Rutherford.
  • – The Proehl family has many North Carolina ties. Ricky Proehl, a Wake Forest graduate, played receiver for the Panthers and ended up becoming a coach for a short stint at the end of his career. His eldest son, Austin, is poised to become North Carolina’s best receiver this season for the Tar Heels. The youngest son, Blake, just signed his letter of intent to play at ECU next year, but his ability to immediately contribute was stripped from him after tearing his ACL. This piece from the North State Journal was a great story on how his family has rallied around him during this tough time.
  • – The NFL preseason is underway and players are making their case for roster spots, and in some cases, starting jobs. Former UNC QB Mitchell Trubisky proved why he was worth trading up multiple picks to the Bears against the Broncos. Trubisky went 18 for 25 and 1 touchdown in an impressive performance. I really liked how this article from the Charlotte Observer captured the Twitter havoc after the game.
  • – Our very own Hayes Permar hopped on a podcast with the guys down at 94.3 the Game in Greenville while he was at the PGA Championship in Charlotte this past week. He had some trouble following the rules and got escorted out of the member tent…. For the entire story of his shenanigans, check out their podcast here

Tweet of the Week: Yeah, ok JR. #goacc
