Who won and how? Justin Thomas takes home his first major winning by 2 strokes after posting an 8 under score for the tourney. After a day where the leaderboard shifted around for most of the front, Thomas took the lead on hole 15. He sealed the tournament by making a remarkable par at 16 and incredible birdie on the par 3 #17 hole.
Was this good for golf? Hell yeah this is fine for golf. Yes, if we had Jordan Spieth battling Rory in the final round with a Dustin Johnson and Phil Mickelson trying to catch up, that would have been a better story. Nevertheless, this was Thomas’ 4th win of the year (The most on the tour) and his first major. Thomas is buds with Spieth and Fowler. This was perfectly fine for golf. This stat below tells the story about how good of place we are with a Tiger-less golf world.

What happens next to Charlotte golf? The Wells Fargo Championship will be back next year. After that is a mystery. Forever the Wells Fargo Championship was a destination for the top golfers to help get ready for the spring/summer season. It worked perfectly a few weeks after the Masters and the week before the Players Championship. With the PGA Championship moving to May in 2019, will the Wells Fargo still draw the same guys? Charlotte already has the 2021 President’s Cup and will probably get future PGA championships and possibly a Ryder. We are cool with the Wells staying there regardless of the level of the field possibly going down and also going to Eagle Point on the year Quail Hollow hosts the big tournaments.
Best interview we did this week? We were able to chat with Raleigh’s own (yes we will call him that) Taylor Zarzour about golf, Dale Jr & working in sports media.

Best story we wrote this week? Our guy Hayes Permar was on the scene all week and wrote a GREAT STORY about being a fan at a golf tournament and waiting to see that one moment.
Best story someone else wrote this week? Leave it to the great Ed Hardin from the Greensboro News & Record to get the story of who the marker (when there is an odd number cut at tournaments, the tournament will pair the guy in last place with someone to help with pace of play) was and OF COURSE he was from the Greensboro area. Look out for Savio next week at the Wyndham.
Pic of the week? Our guy Smith Hardy was at Quail Hollow getting great pics all week. Many great views were found but this one of the winner was solid.
8 is wild? While we were at Quail Hollow for the 2017 PGA Championship we couldn’t forget we are still in ACC Country. Glad ESPN’s Paul Finebaum recognized it as well.
