Welcome to a special holiday version of Stat Boi’s musical posting — Christmas Eve edition! As you well know, the Christmas album that’s sweeping the nation right now is A Very Panther Christmas: Vol. 14-0. However, these aren’t the only holiday tracks I like to bump while sipping egg nog; as usual, we turn to OutKast.
Going back over the years, my favorite Christmas song has long been “Player’s Ball” by OutKast, and it’s my track of the week.
Yes, in case you didn’t know, this fantastic number, which was the group’s first single from their debut album Southernplayalisticadillacmuzik, is in fact a Christmas song.
Here’s a little more backstory on the song, and why it was initially Christmas themed, courtesy of NPR.
Also, here’s the version of “Player’s Ball” that’s become famous, features one of the greatest music videos of all-time, and inspired a classic Chappelle Show sketch.
Merry Christmas, everyone! Enjoy all the amazing NBA action tomorrow.
