Your Guide to “What To Do in Buies Creek”

Articles, Sports

The Big South Men’s Basketball Tournament is coming to UCLA this year, that’s right, the University of Campbell between Lillington & Angier! We found the only super Campbell fan we know (and possibly only one that exists), Jonathan Boggs, to give you the inside scoop on how to maximize your stay in the bustling metropolis known as Buies Creek.

Lodging:
Your bags are packed, the car is gassed up, and you’re ready to head to Buies Creek right? WAIT, have you reserved a hotel for the week? I sure hope so. As a way of preserving the scenic beauty of Harnett County and Buies Creek you will only find two hotels within 10 miles of campus and at this point they are certainly both booked up. Hopefully you can strike a deal with a freshman to stay in their dorm room for a night or two in exchange for some cheap beer or something.

Leisure:
Did you book your hotel stay through the weekend thinking your 10th seed Presbyterian Blue Hose had a real chance at going the distance? No worries, Buies Creek has some great time killers available.
-Keith Hills Golf Club, one of Campbell University’s treasures, Keith Hills is a 27 hole golf course that was awarded Golf Digest’s “Four Star Award” and was described as “one of the top 100 values in the country”. High Point University Men’s Basketball coach and former UNC Tar Heel Scott Cherry will sure to be one of the faces seen on the course after HPU takes their yearly early round exit as a #1 seed (SportsChannel8 does not endorse this editorial comment).
-Raven Rock State Park, located 15 minutes from campus is one of my favorite spots! Hiking trail, beautiful views, and great areas to swim in the Cape Fear River make Raven Rock an easy place to spend your entire day (no seriously try to milk it for a full day if possible because I’m out of leisure ideas).

Food:
-Subway: This delicatessen shop is out of this world. Boasting numerous cuts of choice proteins, artisan breads, an array of fresh crisp veggies, and the most delectable condiments and seasonings you can imagine, their submarine sandwiches will leave you in awe. Simply a must visit while in Buies Creek, you won’t find this quality anywhere else.
-Moe’s Southwestern Grill: Newly renovated, this little known secret will have you coming back to “The Creek” for years. Their traditional take on authentic Mexican classics will make you feel as though you are in your “madres” kitchen back home! With a welcoming atmosphere that starts the second you walk in the door you feel less like “welcome to Moe’s” and more like “welcome to home”!
-Cookout: Make sure to pack your nice jeans and your good cut off tee because, this North Carolina classic takes a step up in class here in “The Creek”. Just minutes away from campus you will find an indoor Cookout, yes an indoor cookout! Tables are limited to a six person maximum and seating fills up fast so make sure to place reservations well in advance if you want to enjoy this “classed-up” traditional favorite.

Nightlife:

Shortcut Error (1)

Well, that wraps up my guide to “The Creek”! Don’t fret if your school makes a deep run and you’re unable to experience it all! As with most big cities, it’s almost impossible to do everything you have on your “want to do” list. And remember, you can always come back later to experience everything you missed!
