WHAT WE’RE THANKFUL FOR #17 – NC HOOPS ONLY SCHOOLS

In North Carolina, we are lucky to live in a state where we have SEVEN FBS football programs. North Carolina actually has as many FBS programs as California and Florida, among others.

One unique thing about the state of NC is they have 18 programs that play Division 1-A basketball. This ranks only behind Texas and California. We know that Tobacco Road basically is the heartbeat of college basketball. But let’s talk about the eleven other programs in the state that provide us with great basketball when our in-state ACC schools aren’t playing.

ACC Gametimes 11/28: The art of scheduling games on TV in 2015

Usually this is the space where we predict the gametimes for the Thanksgiving set of ACC games.
That week features a ton of rivalry games:

  • BC/Syracuse
  • NC State/UNC
  • Wake Forest/Duke
  • Virginia Tech/Virginia
  • Florida State/Florida
  • Georgia Tech/Georgia
  • Louisville/Kentucky
  • Clemson/South Carolina
  • Miami/Pittsburgh

Coincidentally this week features the ACC battling SEC schools in 4 games. This may actually help the ACC have games on actual TV stations.

We all were a bit stunned when the gametimes were released for November 21st. There were three main issues that a number of fans took umbrage with regarding the ACC’s games:

  1. No ACC games that week were in primetime.
  2. ESPN chose to broadcast 3 mediocre SEC games in the 3 main primetime slots
  3. Florida State’s game vs FCS opponent Chattanooga was put on a traditional TV channel while a conference game between Duke and Virginia was relegated to ESPN3.

SportsChannel8, like many fans, was perplexed with the ACC gametimes of that particular weekend and tried to find some answers to the issues mentioned above. Fortunately, a source was able to provide some clarity with how the ACC’s football TV package works.

NBA hoops are back — and the Charlotte Hornets got their first win of the season last night (Take that, Windy City), the Carolina Panthers are 7-0 (let’s gooooooo), Duke and UNC square off in Chapel Hill this weekend with massive Coastal Division title implications on the line, and Steph Curry is raining drops of manna from the basketball heavens. I don’t know what you even call what you guys did to Miami. Some sort of reckoning. A biblical movement. I mean, that made folks uncomfortable.

Hey, they can’t all be pretty. Sometimes you’re gonna have a close call.

I refused to drop you guys because, really, that was rotten luck. And terrible awareness. And tackling. And effort And…

I was waiting the whole time for you guys to really knock Virginia out and it…it never came. And you just called for another penalty.

5. Pitt, W at Syracuse
You barely hung on to beat syracuse, no wonder I have no idea who you guys are.

6. Louisville, W vs Boston College

I thought your defense was good but you gave up 14 points to Boston College. That’s pretty hard, actually.

7. Georgia Tech, W vs FSU

Sunshine! Puppies! Miracles! Drugs!

8. NC State, W at Wake Forest

You won in Winston Salem! Congratulations!

9. Virginia Tech, L vs Duke

Hey, you tried.

10. Miami, L vs Clemson

Woo boy. Not much to say when you get stomped like that and then fire your coach. It all came crumbling down pretty quickly.

11. Boston College, L at Louisville

My kingdom for a(n ACC) victory!

12. Wake Forest, L vs NC State

Take away the first quarter and Wake was right in this one.

An impressive showing against a pretty good defensive team. Easily the most points BC has given up all year.

A little squirrelly in the beginning, then a hobbled Dalvin Cook dragged y’all to the victory once again.

4. UNC, W vs Wake Forest

Woo, y’all really showed that Wake Forest assistant who’s boss! Pop the champagne!

5. Pitt, W at Georgia Tech

Are y’all on TV, because I swear I just see that you won when I wake up on Sunday, but I’ve never seen you play.

Al Golden-related plane banners or victories? Which is higher at the end of the season?

Hey, Dalvin Cook is pretty good. He’s even better when you defend like you’re playing two-hand touch.
