Virginia vs North Carolina: An ACC Championship Giftastic Recap

Virginia vs North Carolina:

The Verizon Center before tipoff:

UNC fans looking for their first ACC title in 8 years:

The first half starts out with what appears to be shaping up as a pretty epic battle with both teams trading punches:

North Carolina has found its defense and its relentless:

Virginia’s Malcolm Brogdon couldn’t find his shot, though:

We go into halftime tied at 28. Let’s do that again:

The fight continues with UVA taking a 44-40 lead with about 10 minutes to go:

However…UNC holds Virginia without a field goal for 8+, only giving up two free throws:

A Brief Giftastic Recap of Semifinal Friday

Friday – Semifinals

Notre Dame vs North Carolina:

I think everyone was hopeful that we’d get to see a high-scoring affair in the early evening tilt between these two. While we didn’t necessarily get that, we did see a decent game right up until about 5 minutes to go in the first half and then woo boy, Notre Dame just kinda died. And North Carolina exploded, going on a 24-0 run that spanned halftime. Lights out. UNC moves on to the championship.

Miami vs Virginia:

About 20 times (give or take), this game looked like it probably should’ve been a blowout in Virginia’s favor. Multiple double digit leads for the Cavs only to see Miami pull it back closer. Probably a harbinger of what was to come Saturday night, but we just didn’t realize it initially. UVA fans were probably breathing a sigh of relief to get out of this one and into the championship game.

#Scalptology Vol 3: What Scalpers Need in DC

The ACC Tournament bracket is set for this week in Washington DC.

What do the hard working ticket scalpers of our nation’s capital need to happen to keep the lights on and mortgage paid?

1. Have a UNC and UVA final. Being close-ish to Charlottesville and having a team in UNC that hasn’t won any sort of tournament since 2009 would make for many fans flocking to DC on Saturday night.

2. Virginia Tech make it to Friday to play Virginia. The Hokies have a huge fanbase in the DC area and another battle of the Commonwealth would make for a great rubber match on Friday night.

3. Duke play UNC on Friday night. Virginia and Virginia Tech will draw, but coupled with another Duke/UNC game on Friday night would make Friday at the Verizon Center, the biggest ticket since Jordan played for the Wizards probably.

4. Make sure no teams south of North Carolina and no teams north of New York (Boston College) make a deep run.

If there are to be upsets (teams playing on Wednesday and earlier), these are the teams that scalpers would like to see:

    1. Virginia Tech
    2. NC State

Which teams need to exit DC as soon as possible for scalpers?

  1. Boston College
  2. Florida State
  3. See #4 above

North Carolina 76, Duke 72: A Giftastic Recap

Duke and UNC are getting together as the Heels are trying to wrap up the ACC Regular Season title:

Duke comes out a little tight, with UNC pulling out to an 8-2 lead in the first five minutes, Duke fans all:

UNC fan:

UNC keeps pushing and moves out to a 20-9 lead, leaving UNC like:

And Duke like:

But wait! A big Duke surge makes it 29-27 with 5 minutes to go in the first half, and the Crazies go wild:

And UNC fans take that as well as could be expected:

But Duke only scores 5 more points in 5 minutes and the Heels take a 40-32 lead into halftime, reviving the spirits of UNC fans:

And quieting Duke fans a bit:

Both teams spend a good part of the first five minutes of the second half doing terrible basketball things:

Duke ties it at 49 on a Grayson Allen 3 and Cameron gets kinda loud:

Two straight bad possessions by Grayson Allen and Duke after tying the game got Duke fans like:

And UNC fans like:

UNC pulls away after that, pushing the lead back out to 9, and this one is pretty much over:

UNC wins 76-72, locking up the first place seed in the ACC Tournament:

NC State welcomes UNC to PNC Arena. NC State is riding a 4-game ACC home win streak while UNC just smashed Miami. State fans are all:

And The N&O’s Joe Giglio (@jwgiglio) said State still has a shot at making the NCAAs at 7-11.

Both teams come out firing and State’s up 10-8 at the under-16 timeout. State fans:

Carolina responds with a 19-5 run to tie it at 29, and UNC fans went:
