At the time it happens, it’s easy to view every coach firing as a “failed” coaching job (it’s not). Likewise it’s easy to be melancholy at the time of a coach’s departure and forget what happy times there were.
And so it is with Mark Gottfried, for whom we wish the best both in the short term (because the team making a run in Brooklyn now would be even more fun) and the long term. We’ll always remember him as the helicopter flying, plane jumping, high wire trusting, svelte looking boxer of a coach he was for six years in Raleigh. Thanks, Coach Gottfried.
