#Scalptology Vol 3: What Scalpers Need in DC

The ACC Tournament bracket is set for this week in Washington DC.

2016ACCBracket

What do the hard working ticket scalpers of our nation’s capital need to happen to keep the lights on and mortgage paid?

1. Have a UNC and UVA final. Being close-ish to Charlottesville and having a team in UNC that hasn’t won any sort of tournament since 2009 would make for many fans flocking to DC on Saturday night.

2. Virginia Tech make it to Friday to play Virginia. The Hokies have a huge fanbase in the DC area and another battle of the Commonwealth would make for a great rubber match on Friday night.

3. Duke play UNC on Friday night. Virginia and Virginia Tech will draw, but coupled with another Duke/UNC game on Friday night would make Friday at the Verizon Center, the biggest ticket since Jordan played for the Wizards probably.

4. Make sure no teams south of North Carolina and no teams north of New York (Boston College) make a deep run.

If there are to be upsets (teams playing on Wednesday and earlier), these are the teams that scalpers would like to see:

    1. Virginia Tech
    2. NC State

Which teams need to exit DC as soon as possible for scalpers?

  1. Boston College
  2. Florida State
  3. See #4 above

ACC Tournament Bracket … for when we’re in charge

At some point in the near future, SportsChannel8 will hold the broadcast rights to the ACC Tournament. And when we do, our first move will be to host a 90 minute gala on the Sunday night following the final Saturday regular season games with live performances, sketch comedy, an ACC news desk segment .. wait, that’s just Saturday Night Live. But whatever, it would be awesome. But the grand finale would be the first ever ACC Tournament blind draw to determine the bracket for the conference championship.

Louisville Ladybirds Announce Postseason Ban for 2016

Last year, the Louisville Ladybirds electrified the Greensboro Coliseum crowd with hands-down the best dance team performance at the 2015 New York Life ACC Tournament. This year, there will be no dancing for the Ladybirds or their favorite basketball team as the Cardinals announced a self-imposed post-season ban in a surprise press conference on Friday afternoon.

It won’t be difficult for the ACC to figure out the impact to this year’s tournament bracket as Syracuse’s post-season ban of 2015 limited the field to 14 teams. The new schedule will be as follows:

Tuesday

#12 vs. #13

#11 vs. #14

Wednesday

#8 vs. #9

#5 vs. #12/#13

#6 vs. #11/#14

#7 vs. #10

The biggest change for North Carolina schools is the shift for the #10 seed from Tuesday to Wednesday. With Louisville as the #2 seed right now, nearly every team in the conference will move up a spot in the seeding, which is great news for Duke who currently sits in 7th place (excluding Louisville), with two full games separating them from the 10th place Virginia Tech Hokies heading into Duke’s toughest stretch of the season.

North Carolina State is the new 12 seed, but would need to pick up two full games to reach the 10th spot to move out of the opening round.

Socially, if the ACC follows the same schedule as last year, the final game on Tuesday will end around 5PM. The removal of the night session for the opening round will mean an early start on #GetWetTuesday, which may be the only silver lining coming from today’s news for ACC fans.

Tournament goers will likely snag any lower level Louisville seats on the secondary market, but with the Cardinals placed in the corner, it’s unlikely to have a major impact on scalpers.
